Special Air Service
Founded in 1941, the S.A.S are a special forces unit of the British Army conceived as a commando force to operate behind enemy lines in the North African Campaign. They worked alongside the LRDG in Libya to attack Axis airfields - striking hard and fast to destroy planes and weaken the Luftwaffe threat.
Containing not only British but also French and Belgian troopers amongst their ranks, they also operated in Italy and launched raids behind enemy lines to secure (and/or destroy!) key objectives to support the Allied advance.
